Veterans helped protect our freedom and stay safe. We believe that every Veteran deserves a safe place to call home. Veterans Community Services (VCS) is a division of Community Catalysts California serving Veteran families in San Diego, Imperial Valley and Riverside counties. Our primary goal is to help our nation’s military service members and Veterans transition successfully into civilian life. Community Catalysts California supports Veteran’s and their families to gain increased independence and productivity as responsible members of their community.
Housing First Strategy
VCS practices a housing-first strategy in which the Veteran family’s primary focus in permanent housing. Housing is the key factor for stable transition and long-term success. Veterans move directly from homelessness to housing. There are no intermediate programs that delay their move into housing. The immensely successful proven outcomes demonstrate that providing housing to a Veteran is the foundation for personal growth and financial self-sufficiency.
Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program (SSVF)
SSVF is a homelessness prevention and rapid re-housing program funded by the Department of Veteran Affairs. We assist at-risk and homeless Veteran families
achieve housing stability through a wraparound Case Management model by assisting with obtaining safe and affordable permanent housing, accessing VA and public benefits, obtaining employment or career advancement, coordinating additional support through referrals and addressing other barriers to maintaining permanent housing. Temporary Financial Aid may be provided to eligible Veteran families to secure housing or provide for other needs to increase housing stability.
Veteran families are empowered to make their own choices. Our Support team assists Veterans in establishing and executing a plan to eliminate barriers to permanent housing.
Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP)
The purpose of HVRP is to provide services to assist in reintegrating homeless veterans into meaningful employment within the labor force and to stimulate the development of effective service delivery systems to address many of the challenges that our homeless veterans are facing.
VCS will provide services to eligible homeless veterans utilizing a case management approach that directly assists homeless veterans as well as provide critical referrals for supportive services available in our community. Our program is “employment focused” and veterans receive the employment and training services they need in order to re-enter the labor force. Job placement, training, job development, career counseling, resume preparation, are among the services that are provided. Supportive services such as clothing, provision of or referral to temporary, transitional, and permanent housing, referral to medical and substance abuse treatment, and transportation assistance may also be provided to meet the needs of homeless veterans.
